Information on Atopic Eczema.
Atopic eczema is the most common form of eczema, and it is normally a chronic or long-lasting condition of the skin.
A large number of people have to battle this disease. It is also known as atopic dermatitis, and is usually allergy induced. Allergies like hay fever or asthma conditions can set off an attack of this form of eczema.
Atopic Eczema Symptoms.
The allergens irritate the skin and cause a reaction in the form of a rash that itches. Often times the itching shows up first and then the rash appears a little while later.
The skin starts to itch and then becomes inflamed, which leads the skin to be red, cracked, swollen, weepy, scaly, and even crusty. This can all make the skin very dry according to most sufferers.
Dry skin can also be an existing condition prior to having the problem of atopic eczema and believed to aggravate the condition.
This skin inflammation can also run in families. It is therefore important to report any family history of this disease to your doctor if you break out with this atopic eczema. This can happen to people at almost any age, and mostly occurs with infants and very young kids.
You usually have good times and bad time with this disease. Flare-ups can occur and the rash can therefore become worse. In between flare-ups the skin can almost clear up entirely.
Some kids grow out of the condition permanently while others continue to have it all their lives.
Atopic Eczema Causes.
- Seasonal allergies can trigger flare-ups along with dry skin,
- Trying new products out on your skin,
- Using harsh detergents and soaps,
- Fragrances if you are sensitive to them,
- Even the cold weather.
When you have a family history for the disease many environmental elements can trigger symptoms.
When trying to treat atopic eczema you need to first remove all things that trigger it as much as possible. If you cannot discover the reason then other treatments will be necessary to control the condition.
Also using the most mild detergents to wash your clothes with will help too. Watch the use of laundry additives or fabric softeners too, some could cause a flare up to occur.
Atopic Eczema Treatments.
Always take good care of your skin by gently cleansing it. Today there are special body washes to do this. These will not dry your skin out as much. After gentle cleansing always moisturize to maintain moisture in the skin. You will have fewer and less severe breakouts the healthier you can keep your skin.
Creams are better than lotions, because they do not contain as much water, and that can dry the skin more than moisturize it.
Itching is controlled normally through use of antihistamines. Currently there are several non-sedating ones on the market. Claritin® is one example of this. Of course there are the sedating ones too like Benadryl®. The jury is out on how effective these drugs are on atopic eczema but they usually help with the itching.
Steroid creams or ointments applied topically can relieve all the symptoms of the rashes associated with atopic eczema. There are various strengths available for your needs, however you should always consult your medical practitioner before use.

Nummular Eczema Information.
Nummular eczema also know as nummular dermatitis is a skin disorder that is allergy triggered.
It breaks out in patches or spots shaped like coins on your skin, and itches like other forms of eczema. Similar to other types of eczema, a specific cause is hard to pinpoint.
Normally it is said to be allergies, asthma, or it can start off as another condition like the atopic form of eczema. This happens less often than the other types of eczema and older men get it more than women do.
Nummular eczema can be negatively affected by outside irritants, dry skin, fluctuations in temperatures, and stress.
Nummular Eczema Treatments.
Various treatments include staying away from the specific triggers, whether it be food allergies or any other thing that can stimulate a breakout or flare-up. Be careful of bathing frequently as this will make your skin dry out and can make Nummular eczema become worse.
Also stay away from harsh detergents and soaps. There are special soaps and other mixtures that will soothe your skin. Moistened compresses can also give some relief to dry, scaly patches of nummular eczema.
There are also lotions, creams and ointments that will help relieve the irritation that the rashes create.
The ointments or creams can have special ingredients designed to combat the itchiness of this condition. Corticosteroids, coal tar, and moisturizers are just some of these ingredients.
Sometimes oral steroids are needed to be prescribed because of the severity of the condition.
Prescriptions strength cortizone creams are highly effective for a severe case of this condition. Certain cortisone creams should not be used on every area of the body, so be sure to check with your doctor before using.
The coal tar products are quite useful if your breakout is very scaly, as it will help the scales shed easier.
Since nummular eczema can be a chronic form of the eczema, ongoing treatments are usually needed. Also if a known trigger has been found you need to avoid it as much as possible. This will lessen the breakouts and help keep the condition under control.
There is really no way to totally prevent nummular eczema from occurring. You can only try to lessen the symptoms with ongoing care and maintenance. Be diligent to catch any breakouts early and doctor them accordingly.
As with the other types of eczema other types of therapies can be useful besides the ones listed above. The ultraviolet light therapy for one can be used on this. It normally takes about 3 treatments a week for this therapy.
Treat any affected skin gently, which means no harsh soaps or detergents, fragrance-free versions are best as they will be easier on the skin. Also there are special body washes that are designed to cleanse very gently without drying the skin out.
Keep the skin moist through the use of creams and ointments to. The healthier you can keep your skin the more you can keep this condition at bay.
Hopefully this article will have helped you understand what nummular eczema is, and how it differs from other forms of eczema.

Eczema Cream.

Eczema Cream Information.
Many times when someone has eczema they need to treat it with some kind of eczema cream (or ointment).
There is more than one kind of eczema cream available that can be applied to relieve the itchy rash associated with eczema. Below is some information on the various creams to help you know which one is right for you.
Moisturizing creams are always beneficial for fighting off the dryness that can occur with eczema. Many good brand name creams are available on the market today. Apply these creams or ointments after showering to add moisture.
Steroid creams are also used for the itching of eczema. These are also effective at keeping the inflammation down. Apply over the affected area usually just 2 times per day (the frequency should be determined by your medical practitioner). There are various strengths of these steroid creams and ointments.
Some of these can be bought over the counter, while others are only available through prescription. Long-term use of steroids can cause bad side effects. Some side effects include a change in the thickness of skin, or you skin’s color changing. So make sure to use as advised.
Then you also have the immunosuppressing effects of Elidel cream and Protopic ointment, which can be useful in hard to deal with cases of eczema. But these should not be used unless absolutely necessary, especially as they carry a warning against cancer. Also other skin infections could occur because these drugs work by suppressing the immune system.
Antibiotics are occasionally needed if the eczema becomes infected. These infections can even be caused by the Staph bacteria that is naturally found on the skin and other surfaces. If antibiotics are prescribed they usually have to be taken from 14 – 28 days. You may have to have ongoing antibiotics if you are constantly suffering from these infections.
There are gel products that contain coal tar which may lower the need to use the topical steroid creams. However, some of these products may irritate the skin if they have alcohol in them, so read the labels before use.
Other Eczema Treatments.
- Other treatments can be used along with the creams or ointments. Corticosteroids lessen the severity of the flare-ups along with lessening the itchiness of it.
- Light therapy using either PUVA or UVB ultraviolet light can help with the chronic cases of the various forms of eczema. This is usually used for the times that other treatments don’t work . Treatments using light therapy are sometimes given several times a week.
- Antihistamines are great for reducing the itchiness of the affected area. Taken orally these help reduce the aggravation that the itchiness causes. You should try not to scratch the eczema as it makes the flare-up worse.
Whether you use eczema cream or one of the other treatments, use something that helps relieve your eczema symptoms. Don’t go around with this condition without doing something about it. Soothe and heal your skin to keep the flare-ups down to a controllable level. You may not be able to totally cure yourself of the eczema, but you can most certainly make yourself more comfortable with it.

What is Dyshidrotic Eczema?
Dyshidrotic eczema is a form of eczema that shows up as small blisters filled with fluid. It normally shows up on the hands and feet. It can breakout on the sides of toes, soles of your feet, and fingers.
This is an extra itchy form of eczema, and outbreaks can last for a period of weeks. Through the blisters drying, the skin becomes cracked, dry, and painful.
Dyshidrotic Eczema Symptoms.
There are various symptoms associated with dishidrotic eczema.
Your skin can become very inflamed and cause the skin to crack and fluid (serum) to collect.
Other symptoms can involve:
- Small bumps that itch slowly turning into a rash of blisters containing fluid.
- The skin can crack or get fissures in it, especially around the toes or fingers.
- The itching associated with this form of eczema can become quite severe.
As the blisters become larger, they can become very painful.
Dyshidrotic Eczema Causes.
No singular cause can currently be pinpointed for Dyshidrotic Eczema. Similar to other forms of eczema, it can be triggered by allergens that the sufferer may be sensitive to.
Breakouts can happen during the times of the year that you are allergic to the outside stimuli. This could be as simple as hay fever, or it could be a more serious condition such as asthma.
Dyshidrotic Eczema Treatments.
Once you have been properly diagnosed with Dyshidrotic Eczema, you can then obtain the correct treatment. The correct treatment will alleviate the symptoms and make the sufferers life a whole lot easier.
Some of those treatments are:
- Cold or wet compresses is one thing you can try at home to relieve the itching. These can be used in conjunction with certain topical solutions to reduce the blisters and the irritation they cause you.
- Corticosteroid ointments and creams are often prescribed by medical professionals for relief of the blisters and rashes that are part of dyshidrotic eczema. These mixtures can help the blisters to get smaller and even go away. They can also keep the skin from cracking due to dryness.
- Antihistamines are often prescribed to get rid of the itching. Both loratadine and diphenhydramine are effective in this area.
- There are a variety of light therapies that could also be beneficial such as the PUVA (psoralen with ultraviolet A) or the use of ultraviolet B light therapy.
- An oral steroid may also be part of your treatment to help with the itching and other symptoms, however these can have serious side effects.
- There are also the pimecrolimus (Elidel) and tacrolimus (Protopic), which suppress the immune system, and are used when other treatments are not successful. Please note that you may be at risk of developing skin infections due to the fact that these drugs suppress the immune system.
Hopefully this information on various Dyshidrotic Eczema Treatments will help, however you need to be aware that this type of eczema can come back even with treatment.

Which Eczema Treatment is Right for You?
When you suffer from Eczema, all you can think about is how you can get relief from your symptoms, especially the itching. You should be properly diagnosed by a physician so that the correct treatment is prescribed if required.
Since there are so many different types of eczema, your treatment will need to be designed to fit the kind you suffer from.
Eczema Treatment Options.
The main theme behind treatment for this condition is to soothe the various symptoms. Through medication and certain other changes in your life, eczema can be brought under control.
Part of the treatment usually involves making sure your skin has the moisture it needs to be healthy. Another part of the treatment usually involves soothing the allergic reaction your body is having towards something. You do have to know what the trigger is so this may take a bit of time to discover.
Along with preventing your skin from drying out by using moisturizers, avoiding harsh detergents and soaps, and not taking showers that are too hot, medications are also used. This is important if the specific trigger cannot be identified and removed from your life.
An antihistamine with hydroxyzine (Vistaril) or diphenhydramine (Benedryl) can be taken to relieve the itching when it is really bad.
There are over-the-counter hydrocortisone (steroid) creams you can topically apply to the affected areas. Also, the effective anti-itch creams that have a menthol and camphor in them or the calamine creams.
When the symptoms are severe enough an oral corticosteroid may need to be taken. Doctor’s do not encourage this type of treatment to be used long term, as there can be negative side effects with this drug.
Cyclosporine, which is one of the immunosuppressant drugs, can also be prescribed.
Light therapy using ultraviolet light can also prove effective for some sufferers.
There are some natural things that can be help eczema. Some of these remedies can include:
- Coconut oil is proving a very effective natural treatment for eczema. Just apply it to the effective area and make sure to get the pure form free of chemicals and fragrances.
- Bathing in an oatmeal bath can help some eczema sufferers by relieving the itching, however it can also make some conditions worse. You can use either a commercially-made oatmeal treatment, or make one at home using oatmeal from the store. The quantity of oats you would add to your bath would depend on how itchy you are. About 2 cups of the oatmeal makes a nice bath. Soak in it until the itching is relieved and make sure to moisturize after bathing.
- Vitamin E is another natural way to help your eczema. You can apply a cream containing Vitamin E to your skin, along with taking vitamin E. It is a very effective antioxidant that nourishes your skin. This can help soothe the rashes that occur with eczema.

What You Should Know About Eczema.
www.itchy-skin-eczema-treatment.com
Eczema Facts.
Eczema actually covers several conditions of the skin that can cause it to get inflamed. One form of this condition is called atopic dermatitis. This is usually caused from allergies such as hay fever for one.
Atopic dermatitis (or eczema) currently affects about 1/3 of the population in the United States. It is very common for infants and young children to suffer from it.
Many times, the child can grow out of these conditions, but others may suffer from it all through their lives.
When correct treatment is given for the eczema, it can often be brought under control.
Eczema Symptoms.
Sometimes the first symptom of this condition to show up is a severe itching of the skin. The itching can start even before a rash appears. The rash usually appears after the itching. It starts as a scaly and flaky dry area of skin that has inflamed red skin underneath.
This rash can burn as well as itch, and the itching can also become worse at night, making it difficult for the sufferer to sleep.
The rash frequently becomes aggravated further due to scratching, and it often starts to ooze as well. This then causes the rash to become crusty. This is common with children who suffer from eczema, but can also occur on adult sufferers.
The rashes are usually scaly, thick, and brown in color. Red bumps can appear or clear ones filled with fluids; these can break open and ooze, making the whole area damp. Then the skin can also crack the longer the eczema goes on and this can be painful.
A rash can appear on virtually any area of your body, but the most common areas affected are the legs, arms, face, creases in the feet and hands. This is because these parts of the body are usually exposed more to outside elements.
Causes of Eczema.
Eczema is not brought about by a singular cause. It is a reaction of your immune system, and the body is usually reacting to allergens when eczema breaks out.
If you have an allergic reaction caused by eczema, you will develop IgE antibodies along with a reaction to the allergens. Your skin then gets inflamed and the eczema starts to develop.
Some common things that can trigger eczema are:
- Extremes in the weather such as cold or hot.
- Soaps and detergents reacting with the skin.
- Outside allergens coming into contact with the body.
- Jewelry, some people have an allergy to nickel that is in some costume pieces.
- Bacteria Sweating Creams can be a source of eczema breakouts due to certain ingredients that are in them.
- The skin being rubbed or scratched too much.
- Stress can always be a cause for the rash to breakout with eczema. This can be mental or physical causes for this stress.
People with allergies are definitely in the high-risk group for developing eczema. It is thought that heredity has a huge effect on whether you suffer from eczema or not. So check out your family history to know your risk.
Eczema cannot be caught from someone else by coming into contact with them.
