Normally it is said to be allergies, asthma, or it can start off as another condition like the atopic form of eczema. This happens less often than the other types of eczema and older men get it more than women do.

Nummular eczema can be negatively affected by outside irritants, dry skin, fluctuations in temperatures, and stress.

Various treatments include staying away from the specific triggers, whether it be food allergies or any other thing that can stimulate a breakout or flare-up. Be careful of bathing frequently as this will make your skin dry out and can make Nummular eczema become worse.

Also stay away from harsh detergents and soaps. There are special soaps and other mixtures that will soothe your skin. Moistened compresses can also give some relief to dry, scaly patches of nummular eczema.

There are also lotions, creams and ointments that will help relieve the irritation that the rashes create.

The ointments or creams can have special ingredients designed to combat the itchiness of this condition. Corticosteroids, coal tar, and moisturizers are just some of these ingredients.

Sometimes oral steroids are needed to be prescribed because of the severity of the condition.

Prescriptions strength cortizone creams are highly effective for a severe case of this condition. Certain cortisone creams should not be used on every area of the body, so be sure to check with your doctor before using.
