eczema and tattoo

Shug asked:

I want to get a tattoo but im worried that getting a tattoo will cause my eczema to flare up or become infected.

Does anyone know if eczema is affected by a tattoo?

I think it should be okay but you should check with a dermatologist.

Get your tattoo done on an area of your skin that doesn’t break out with eczema.

Hey I have atopice eczema (atopic means from childhood) so I’ve had it for 22yrs! Anyway when I was 13-14 my skin was very clear I had very few break outs I got 4 tattoos that were fine, the largest one which had shading on it dropped out ALOT…over time steroid cream can also cause it to fade…Ive just attempted another large tatto on my arm with lots of detail and shading my skin isn’t very clear anymore and I have weekly break
Outs, the tattoo is struggling to heal it also doesn’t hold any of the outline or a lot of the shading..on a normal person the tattoo would be finished and quite dark however because of my eczema it’s very light almost greyish looking and is taking a lot of appointments to make it show up properly equaling more pain and more money. My other tattoos raise now and look bumpy and feel bumpy. My suggestion would be don’t do it..I turned to tattooing over my eczema as it seemed cheaper to do rather than seeing a dermatologist, paying for meds etc. but at the end of the day it’s still uncomfortable to have eczema + a tattoo
